Pokai
Bay is on the leeward side of Oahu. It is a 30 mile westerly sail from Ala Wai
Harbor to just south of Waianae Small Boat Harbor. Pokai usually has calm waters
protected by a jetty, making this State Park a popular and well
used family beach all year around. Boats can anchor behind the jetty
outside the swim area with short scope in good holding ground. It's an easy row or swim ashore. The jetty is a
haven for a variety of sea life and provides great snorkeling. Dolphins
come into the bay in the morning and put on a great show, and sea turtles swim
and feed through the anchorage. There are bathrooms and beach showers on
shore, and a short walk takes you to the town of Waianae where stores and entertainment can be
found. North and just off the beach is the Army Rest Camp with a restaurant that is open to the public. The anchorage is enjoyable but can be noisy at times, with
families picnicking and lots of children having loads of fun!
