Hanalei Bay  (crescent bay ) is on the North side of Kauai.  The bay is about a mile in diameter.  Favor the center of the wide entrance and avoid the reef on both sides.  Do not head directly for the anchored boats!! Get well into the bay then head up to the anchorage.  Winter and fall the bay is closed due to the North swell .  From Memorial  Day  thru Labor Day  Hanalei Bay provides a great anchorage in the East quadrant.  Anchor South of the wharf in 20 feet, sand bottom.   There are restrooms, open air showers and water available.  The small town of Hanalei is within walking distance (1/2 mile) and provides groceries, laundromat and restaurants.  Two and a half miles east is the upscale  shopping center of Princeville.
